“You must not reduce yourself to a puddle just because the person you like is afraid to swim and you’re a fierce sea to them. Because there will be someone who was born with the love of waves within their blood, and they will look at you with fear and respect.”
— Todd B. LaBerge, Unwritten Letters to You
People love on all sorts of different levels, and we spend a lot of our time and energy convincing people to love the way we do. There are some people who will never be able to meet you there, and they might not want to. We have to learn that it’s okay. The important thing to recognize is that you can only dumb down your love for so long. We need depth. We need a love that challenges us. If we’re always the ones bringing love in with a huge heart, we are gonna get bored and frustrated. The capacity and desire for the love we’re choosing have to match the love we’re bringing. On some level, we must ask ourselves why we keep choosing a love so small, and why we feel like we must convince people. Maybe you’re scared of the ocean. I know I am.
